Two centuries of stone, and everything you need today
A 250 m² (2,700 sq ft) farmhouse running north to south, with stone walls between sixty centimetres and a metre thick. Terracotta floors, exposed beams, bare stone in almost every room. Restored so that twelve people can live in it comfortably without it losing any of its age.
The house holds the French government’s four-star classification for self-catering rentals, and the top rating from Gîtes de France, the national network of inspected holiday properties.
The living room
Generous volumes under the beams, dressed stone walls, deep sofas, a fireplace and a television. Twelve people fit without piling on top of one another, and a few steps separate the spaces, so one conversation does not drown out another.
The kitchen, and the table for twelve
An open kitchen, properly equipped for cooking together — because at twelve, you rarely cook alone: induction hob, oven, microwave, dishwasher, kettle, toaster, and crockery, glassware and utensils for twelve.
The tap water runs through a reverse-osmosis filter. You can drink it as it comes, and you will not be carrying bottled water up from the car.
Next door, the dining room and its long table facing a window onto the greenery: this is the table for rainy evenings and late breakfasts.
The courtyard, facing east
One of the two hearts of the house in summer. Set against the hillside and closed by a dry-stone wall, the courtyard holds a stone table for twelve, a long bench running the length of the wall, and a fountain.
Above it, a mulberry tree several centuries old covers almost the whole surface. White mulberries were planted by the million across the South of France to feed silkworms, and their remarkably dense foliage makes them one of the best shade trees there is. Being deciduous, they let the sun back in through winter.
Facing east, the courtyard takes the soft morning sun and then falls into the shadow of the house from early afternoon. This is where you have lunch, read, and sit by the fountain when it is hot.
The terrace, facing south
On the other side of the house, under a large pergola, a second table for twelve looking out over the fields. A barbecue and a plancha. Behind them, an outdoor sitting area with armchairs in the shade. This is the sunset side: the side for aperitifs and for dinners that go on.
The games room and the bar
Under the beams upstairs, a games room: billiard table, chess, sofas, television. Enough to fill an afternoon that is too hot, an evening that is too cool, or simply a group of teenagers.
Internet
High-speed satellite internet, via Starlink. Deep in the countryside that is unusual — and it means you can work, take a video call or stream a film with twelve people in the house without the connection giving way.
